Breaking from his predecessor, Virginia's Governor-elect Bob McDonnell sent a letter to Interior Secretary Salazar, asking the administration to move forward with a scheduled offshore lease sale in 2011. McDonnell says "offshore energy exploration and production will be a priority" during his four-year term as governor. The Commonwealth's current Gov. Tim Kaine sought to delay the lease sale.

Wondering when the recession will end? A survey of 100 chief financial officers (CFOs) at U.S. oil and natural gas exploration and production companies shows that 31 percent believe the business climate will improve in the second half of 2010, and 33 percent say the climate will be better between 2011 and 2012.

API Statistics Point Toward Economic Recovery

API fuel demand statistics seem to indicate that the economy is recovering, albeit very slowly. According to API's Monthly Statistical Report for November, U.S. gasoline deliveries (a measure of demand) increased 1.5 percent over the same month a year ago, following a trend that has been nearly uninterrupted since June. Overall, domestic petroleum deliveries were down just 1 percent.
