WASHINGTON, September 12, 2018 – The American Petroleum Institute joined the Americans for Free Trade coalition, a multi-industry initiative launched today and backed by over 80 leading trade associations from across the country:

“American natural gas and oil power the U.S. economy and deliver abundant and affordable energy to consumers across the country,” said API President and CEO Mike Sommers. “In order to meet the President’s goal of energy dominance, we need trade policies that support the American energy revolution and enable critical infrastructure projects that create jobs and keep our country moving.

“We’re proud to stand with this diverse group of manufacturers, retailers, and farmers who depend on trade to keep America strong,” added Sommers.

Last month, API launched digital ads nationally in opposition to tariffs, which jeopardize the U.S. energy revolution and continued economic growth.

API is the only national trade association representing all facets of the oil and natural gas industry, which supports 10.3 million U.S. jobs and nearly 8 percent of the U.S. economy. API’s more than 600 members include large integrated companies, as well as exploration and production, refining, marketing, pipeline, and marine businesses, and service and supply firms. They provide most of the nation’s energy and are backed by a growing grassroots movement of more than 47 million Americans.
