New API Document Defines Methodology for Carbon Footprinting Calculation of Lubricants and Specialty Products

The American Petroleum Institute (API) today published API Technical Report (TR) 1533, Lubricants Life Cycle Assessment and Carbon Footprinting – Methodology and Best Practice, which defines an industry-specific methodology for life cycle assessment of lubricants and specialty products. API has published a first-edition technical report on leak detection for multiphase subsea production gathering and gas injection systems that incorporates best practices on leak detection methods using process data and operator training, with the aim of minimizing impacts on the environment if there is loss of containment.

API has published API Technical Report 17TR16, Subsea Hydrocarbon Production Leak Detection Systems Using Process Data. The first edition technical report provides guidelines for the design, operation, maintenance and personnel training related to process data-based leak detection capabilities on subsea multiphase systems.

API has published API Recommended Practice (RP) 1170, Design and Operation of Solution-mined Salt Caverns Used for Natural Gas Storage, 2nd edition to provide guidance for salt cavern facilities used for natural gas storage. The standard focuses on facility geomechanical assessments, cavern well design and drilling, risk management, solution mining techniques and operations.

API Recommended Practice 1171

API has published API Recommended Practice 1171, Functional Integrity of Natural Gas Storage in Depleted Hydrocarbon Reservoirs and Aquifer Reservoirs, 2nd edition, to outline storage well, reservoir and fluid management for functional integrity in design, construction, operation, monitoring, maintenance and documentation practices. The standard applies to natural gas storage in depleted natural gas and oil reservoirs as well as aquifer reservoirs.
